rainbow propeller hat?

Hey y'all,

I am looking for one of those rainbow propeller hats (just like the one advertising this tribe) for my partner. He had one a few years back when they were really popular and is looking for a new one. Called Fry's already and they no longer carry them. Any ideas where they might be for sell besides Amazon.com? It is a last minute idea he had for an Estara bonnet for our faerie coffee tomorrow morning.

Thanks ever so,

Esteban

It is time to submit your nominations for GLBT Engineer, Scientist, and Educator of the year in addition to the Walt Westman and Institution/Corporate awards. Please go to www.NOGLSTP.org, click on the Recognition Awards link on the left side, then download the form for nominations. Contrary to what is on the form, nominations are due by Nov 15, 2008 (not 2007 - sorry, our fault). We look forward to seeing another slate of worthy GLBT innovators, researchers, and teachers as well as supportive companies and universities in 2008.

Thanks for your support of NOGLSTP and the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender technical communities!

The Final Edition of the ICP

Dear Friends of the International Carnival of Pozitivities:

It is with both joy and sadness that I am writing to announce the final edition of the ICP. After you receive this notice, I will delete the mailing list for the ICP from my files and you will no longer receive announcements about the project. I was placed on a new drug regimen about 2 months ago and have experienced a serious side effect to the new meds. I am no longer able to continue to maintain the project as a result.

Please know that it has been a joy to bring you the ICP for the past 2 years and that I wish I could continue the project into the future. However, my focus has to be on my own healing now. For those of you who have contributed or hosted the ICP, my heartfelt gratitude can hardly be expressed. For those who blog about HIV/AIDS and who fight to end the stigma of this disease, I urge you to continue your work. We are all in the fight of our lives.

Many, many thanks to Sokari at Blacklooks for hosting the final edition of the ICP at the following link:

http://www.blacklooks.org/2008/06/international_carnival_of_positives_-_final_edition.html

Please visit, read and leave your feedback for the host and the contributors in this, the last edition of the ICP.

I wish you all peace and health.

Much love.

Dear Friends of the International Carnival of Pozitivities (ICP):

It is a tremendous pleasure to announce the publication of edition 2.9 of the ICP at the following link:

http://rosemaryrowe.typepad.com/creampuff_revolution/2008/03/creampuff-welco.html

Creampuff, a.k.a., Roro, who hails from Vancouver, is our first repeat host from Canada. I encourage you to bookmark this edition and visit it over time so that you can enjoy each of the contributions from the world of HIV/AIDS. I hope that you will also join me in thanking Roro for her work this month. We “met” about 2 years ago during the NHL Hockey Championship between Edmonton and the Carolina Hurricanes and have been fast friends since despite some rather competitive invocation of mojo to make our teams win the Stanley Cup. Roro’s sense of compassion combined with her sense of humor makes me quite happy to count her among my friends.

This 21st consecutive edition of the ICP features personal accounts, video, a special musical contribution from UK band Slovo, self-help information and the latest in news from the HIV/AIDS community. I hope that you will spend some time reading and that you will leave comments for the contributors. It is through your comments that we can hone our messages and learn how you feel about our work. Please feel free to leave your thoughts with each of the contributors and for our gracious host.

Next Edition

Please visit the ICP homepage to learn more about this project and how you can contribute here:
We are now accepting submissions for edition 2.10 to be hosted here, at Mshairi:

http://www.mshairi.com/blog

This will be Mshairi’s first stint as host of the ICP although she has been a frequent contributor in the past. Mshairi’s edition will mark the first time that the ICP will have been hosted by an African host. If you like poetry, you should scroll through her blog. A selection of her poetry also appears at one of my favorite sites, The Other Voices Poetry International Project, an anthology of poetry from around the world that has been recognized by UNESCO, here:
If you are interested in hosting the ICP, please email me at ron.hudson@verizon.net with the subject listed as “Volunteering to Host the ICP” and I will make the process for you as fun and rewarding as possible. We urgently need new volunteer hosts for the ICP editions after April, 2008. I will work with you to make the process as painless as it can be whether you are a first-time or returning host.

Please include the word subscribe or unsubscribe in your subject line to indicate your intent. I will use your source email address as indicated in your note. I encourage you to bookmark this edition and visit it over time so that you can enjoy each of the contributions from the world of HIV/AIDS. I hope that you will also join me in thanking Mark for his work this month and Giles of Slimconomy and Roro of Creampuff Revolution for the previous Canadian editions.

Dear Friends of the International Carnival of Pozitivities (ICP):

The 16th edition of the ICP is now available at:

http://ogresview.mu.nu/archives/243135.php.

This edition represents an attempt to reach out to a conservative political community about HIV/AIDS. It is my hope that our messages might encourage those who normally do not come in contact with the issues of HIV/AIDS to think about how to help us fight the pandemic. We have poetry, video, personal accounts and news from around the world.

Next Edition
Please visit the ICP homepage to learn more about this project and how you can contribute at the following link:
We are now accepting submissions for edition 17 to be hosted at Slimconomy at the link:
As usual, I would like to ask you to post a permanent link to the ICP homepage (you can get a widget there as well) on your blogs or websites and to share the word of this edition with your readers and friends. The more people who know about the ICP, the more likely it will be that we will continue to receive excellent contributions. In fact, feel free to nominate your own HIV/AIDS related contributions from your favorite blogs or websites. The most powerful stories are those of personal nature, so I would encourage you to seek out or write personal accounts and to share them with the ICP. There are many more of you than of me, so join me in the search for quality blogs that share personal stories about HIV/AIDS from around the world. We have hardly begun to tap into the situation in Asia, so blogs from that region of the world are particularly welcome.

Dear Friends of the International Carnival of Pozitivities (ICP):

The 15th edition of the ICP is now available at the following link:

http://hivhsnmindfulness.blogspot.com:80/2007/08/15th-edition-of-international-carnival.html

on the blog Living Mindfully with HIV. This edition includes a return of artwork from Colombian artist Farid de la Ossa, a video from Angelique Kidjo and Joss Stone for relief for Darfur, a special gift offer from me for your contribution to an AIDS Charity of your choice, HIV/AIDS news from around the world, more addiction recovery help, a very special introduction to "Big Love" or "Arohanui", and much more. Please take a few moments to read and leave comments, particularly for your host, James Wortz, who has done yet another great job despite a bout of bad health in the last few days.

Next Edition

Please visit the ICP homepage ( http://internationalcarnivalofpozitivities.blogspot.com ) to learn more about this project and how you can contribute. We are now accepting submissions for edition 16 to be hosted at Ogre's Politics and Views ( http://www.ogresview.mu.nu ). Please consider contributing your original artwork, poetry, news, personal accounts, short stories, videos or music files for the next edition. This next edition is very special. I have approached the host, Mr. Ogre, to participate as an outreach to a conservative political community that normally may not hear from people living with HIV/AIDS. Please consider this an opportunity to share your stories with a group of people who may not normally think of HIV/AIDS as often as we do and how you might make your case for teamwork with people who may not necessarily agree with you.

There are many more of you than of me, so join me in the search for quality blogs that share personal stories about HIV/AIDS from around the world. We have hardly begun to tap into the situation in Asia, so blogs from that region of the world are particularly welcome.

Contribute Your Work

I hope that you will join the growing community of contributors and hosts for this important international forum for genuine voices of AIDS. If you are interested in hosting the ICP, please email me and I will make the process for you as painless as possible. Return hosts are welcome!
Please send me an email (ron.hudson@verizon.net) with the word REMOVE or SUBSCRIBE in your subject line to have your name removed or added to the ICP mailing list.

SF Gay Geeks Gathering This Saturday!

MORE SUCCESS! The last gathering was a smash and a record for talk -- 4 1/2 hours of geektalk! We're going to do it again! Burning Man be damned, there are still lots of us in SF!

Announcing the next Original Gay Geeks Gathering:

Saturday, September 1, 2:00pm Mission Creek Cafe, back room 968 Valencia Street (betw 20th and 21st) San Francisco

They have good food (try the Chicken Salpicon sandwich!) and a good atmosphere. Heck, there are even books for sale in the back room. How much more nerdy can you get?

Gay Geeks is a haven for intellectuals and visionaries. Thus, your learned geekery is most welcome. If you study languages, streetcars, oceans, Islam, or have a collection of Elvis postcards, or you're running for mayor of SF, you're our kind of people. Come on by. This sets the Original Gay Geeks apart from other such groups. The group doesn’t focus on computers, and it doesn’t focus on gay issues. In fact, we’ve usually gone through hours of discussions and not mentioned computers or gay folks even once.

I envision that this gathering will meet the FIRST and THIRD Saturdays of the month at 2:00pm, but always read the email first to be sure where we're meeting.

To get onto the email list, send a blank email to: sfgaygeeks-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or visit the Yahoo group website at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sfgaygeeks

Topics: Be most assured that the topics will be a whirlwind of everything imaginable.

Show & Tell: If you have something interesting to show, such as your bug collection or whatnot, consider bringing it to one of our future gatherings.

--David Kaye, founder of the Original Gay Geeks Gathering (established January 1997)

Here's the info to get on the email list to keep up with our future activities:

Group Email Addresses
Subscribe: sfgaygeeks-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

SF Gay Geeks Group Returns Soon!

Yes, it's true. The original Gay Geeks, founded in 1997 has had a couple events during the past year. Well, now we're going to embark on a regular monthly social to start. We'll see how it goes from there, but it looks like we'll have some field trips and whatnot.

The original Gay Geeks is a haven for intellectuals and visionaries. We talk about the arts and sciences, not about gay stuff. Past topics have included astronomy, the value of religion in modern life, memes, molecular technology, and things like that.

I envision that our next gathering will be Saturday August 4, 2007 in SF, but that hasn't been solidified yet. Sorry, this a San Francisco Bay Area in-person group, so if you won't be in SF this group probably won't interest you.

Get on the mailing list to participate and find out the location of the next gathering. I promise you that you will meet some astounding people!

As a gay blogger and a 22 year survivor of HIV/AIDS, I started a blog carnival for people living with HIV/AIDS and their allies. The homepage of the International Carnival of Pozitivities (ICP) can be found at:

www.internationalcarnivalofpozitivities.blogspot.com

This is a forum to share artwork, music, video, poetry, short stories and personal accounts about living with HIV/AIDS, the struggle to end the stigma of HIV/AIDS and how allies help the HIV/AIDS community.

Please check out the homepage at the link above and you will find links for the first 13 editions. Our next edition will be posted by 10 August at Straight, Not Narrow at:

We accept pertinent submissions for each edition until the 2nd of each month at midnight New York time and publish each month by the 10th at midnight.

Please have a look. If you like what you see, please share the link with your friends.

Hiring a Digital/Online Marketing and Outreach Director for 5th Anniversary Celebration of Trembling on the Road

Hiring a Digital/Online Marketing and Outreach Director for 5th Anniversary Celebration of Trembling on the Road

I am seeking a Digital/Online Marketing and Outreach Director for our 5th Anniversary Celebration of Trembling on the Road. The film, Trembling Before G-d, addresses sexuality, faith and religious fundamentalism through the stories of Hasidic and Orthodox gays and lesbians. Trembling has touched and transformed lives across the globe. An estimated 8 million people have seen the film. Trembling on the Road is a 40-minute featurette - a dramatic document of dialogues, protests, reactions, screenings, and events from this worldwide tour. It includes poignant, funny, interesting, and angry reactions and reflections on Trembling and updates on all the character's lives. It is featured on the Trembling Before G-d DVD. Many people who saw the film in theatrical release, in festivals and on TV have never seen it. For some, Trembling Before G-d was “dare to despair” - Trembling on the Road is uplifting and hopeful.

During the 10 days between Rosh Hashanah (The Jewish New Year - September 12th) and Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement - September 21st), we launch this international campaign to organize 250 house, workplace and house of worship parties of Trembling on the Road around the world.

The Ten Days is an amazing ritual time to reflect on our year: where we have come from, where we are and where we wish to go.

The 5th Anniversary Celebration of Trembling on the Road celebrates the power to make change and asks: Where would you like to make a change in your life? In your family? In your community? In the world?

This is especially true this year where Trembling helped catalyze the Conservative Movement to address the questions of homosexuality and for the first time ever, Conservative seminaries will openly ordain gay and lesbian rabbis. We ask: are we still Trembling?

We have over 1000 pages of emails people have sent us sharing how Trembling impacted their lives, their friends, families, religious leaders, schools, communities etc.- we will upload stories and invite you and others to do the same. We hope to record this critical history of transformation.

The DVD will be available for sale directly from our website and we will have discussion guides for download.

# # #

The Digital/Online Marketing & Outreach Director will work closely with director/producer Sandi DuBowski to develop and implement online PR, advocacy, and sales strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Develop and implement online PR and content strategy for Trembling On the Road Campaign to amplify our reach online and to grow our e-subscriber list
o Monitoring blogs and Web sites (Jewish, GLBT, film, faith, human rights/social change etc.) to identify opportunities for Trembling campaign.
o Update and maintain Trembling presence on social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, etc.
o Develop new Web and organizational partnerships to publicize Trembling campaign - link exchanges with other sites, mailing lists, website discussion areas, online newsletters, web press, etc.
o Oversee Web site administration including attracting more user-contributed content, updating sections of the Web site and overseeing the upload of videos
o Create and send email newsletter
o Manage email database
o Set up affiliate marketing relationships and liason with DVD distributor and fulfillment house
o Evaluate and report on the popularity and effectiveness of the campaign and Web site traffic
o Additional duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Boycott MySpace for homophobic cRAP music

My MySpace.com account was deleted when I questioned their sponsorship of homophobic rap "music". It's outrageous that these so called musicians can get away with their vicious attacks on the gay community with impunity. I guess MySpace will tolerate just about anything except criticizm. I'm new at this organizing business. I'd appreciate any help in getting the word out on MySpace censorship and sponsorship of bigotry. Let's organize a boycott.

My e-mail to MySpace:
Excuse me but why is My Space sponsoring homophobic, hate mongering cRAP music? My buddy Tom has not responded to my e-mail about this subject. It is not acceptable for these viscious, loud mouth, no talent, hate mongers to profit from out pain. There is a large gay presence on myspace. Blog, e-mail, bulletin as many friends as you can. Maybe Tom will get the message.

"Queers and Niggers" and more than JUST funny! Accept us as full serious human beings or get punched!

"Queers and Niggers" and more than JUST funny! Accept us as full serious human beings or get punched!

I keep hearing terrorists are the new Jews as if Jews were no longer persecuted. I hear the same the same about Gays, as if everything is okay now that we have Wil & Grace, a show that is stolen from its namesakes by a stereotype gay man and his alcoholic female friend that acts like gay drag queen.

Gays are far from accepted. The thing that kills me is that now, we are not only NOT accepted, now we are openly laughed at for stereotypes. They've even legitimized the stereotypes by calling it "Queer Theory". Why don't they just cut off my balls? That would be like having a respected academic course in college called "Nigger Theory".

Then, they have the nerve to suggest civil unions could even come close to satisfying the call for parity with straights. When two gay people fall in love with people from another country, their relationships are not protected by green cards, yet straights think it would all be okay if each state just individually passed half measure civil union laws and corporations gave domestic partnership coverage, which is really intended to help all single people, a majority of which are straight.

I am so sick of people acting like we have arrived, when we haven't even been allowed on the same train. There is going to be a violent revolution before its over and many gays will die before there is any movement of moral justice, but the principles will finally be clear. Nothing half-ass is acceptable.

Can anyone imagine that black people would have accepted being able to vote for local and state officials but not the President? If black slaves had been granted the right to permanently rent land but never hold title?

The whole idea is insane and many gay people, God forgive them for their low self-esteem, are willing to take less than full recognition of one the most powerful statements of their humanity, the right to love and permanently pair. It's not about reproductive rights; that's just a red herring filter that straights are trying to create to make it impossible for gays to respond. If we just wanted to reproduce, what the hell? Who can't do that? It just takes an unplanned egg and sperm joining. Gays become parents quite easily and often.

Here's the deal. Gays are not ever going to get something as long as it is perceived that they must be "accepted" by straights. Hell, whites still don't understand or accept blacks, but at least they can fuck each other until there is only one color. That will solve their differences eventually. Gays and straight will never fully "understand each other". How can they?

But they better, by God, respect each other, or they will kill each other and it will make the US civil war look like a cake walk.

Imagine if even 10% of invisible gay people begin to truly act up. We don't want to go there, do we? Now, wasn’t that funny!
Idle computers fight HIV

ACTION! ALERT | washingtonblade.com

Idle computers fight HIV
Donated time crunches data to develop new HIV drugs

By DYANA BAGBY
Jan. 20, 2006

GAY ACTIVISTS HAVE A SIMPLE NEW way to help fight the spread of AIDS: donating idle computer time to a global community of computers that will crunch data to find new HIV drugs.

By joining the World Community Grid, which links personal computers around the globe to create a “virtual super computer,” people donate their idle computer time to researchers who are hoping to significantly cut down on the time it takes to find chemical compounds against variations of a protein found in the HIV virus — one combination at a time.

“The computational challenges in approaching this problem are the vast number of possible mutations that may occur, and the huge number of possible chemical compounds that might be tested against them,” Arthur Olson, the project director of Fight AIDS at Home at the private Scripps Research Institute in California, said in a prepared statement.

“The new World Community Grid project will run millions upon millions of docking computations to evaluate potential interactions between compounds and mutant viral proteins,” he added.

FIGHT AIDS AT HOME joined with IBM and the World Community Grid in November to create the “virtual super computer” available to people around the world willing to donate their computers to participate in “grid technology” which allows for immense number-crunching tasks to be broken into small pieces for individual computers, explained Scripps spokesperson Keith McKeown.

“We’re very excited to be apart of IBM’s worldwide effort that benefits science and in dealing with HIV/AIDS in new ways,” he said.

“Normally, we would have to purchase a supercomputer to handle all the data, which is very costly and could take 100 years to handle all the data, but by joining the World Community Grid, we save money and time and hopefully will speed up the process in finding a cure.”

To help the project, computer users simply download a free software program from the World Community Grid that runs “in the background” on your computer, explained Catherine Collins, an IBM spokesperson. The Fight AIDS at Home client processes information and evaluates prospective candidates for drug discovery.

The program uses idle processor cycles that would otherwise go to waste, captures the wasted cycles of your computer and applies them to model the evolution of drug resistance and to design drugs necessary to fight AIDS, Collins said.

Computer models designed and tested via computers are also much quicker than the tedious task of testing millions of protein combinations to stop HIV in a traditional lab setting, according to project officials.

“When your computer has finished a Fight AIDS at Home computation, the Fight AIDS at Home results are packed up and sent back to the Scripps Research Institute, ready for Scripps researchers to collect and analyze them,” she explained.

The project is expected to take about a year.

MORE THAN 146,000 people and 240,000 computers have been enlisted to participate in the World Community Grid in the Fight AIDS at Home project, Collins said.

The World Community Grid, created to help in humanitarian science projects dealing with vast amounts of data, first found success as a virtual supercomputer by helping science with its Human Proteome Folding Project.

The grid technology enabled scientists to produce a database describing some 120,000 protein domains in about a year — a project that would have taken researchers about 100 years to complete with only their supercomputers, Collins said.

Hi....new to the tribe. Well it's time to upgrade to a new computer. This one is still using Windows 98 and I get so many blue screen errors that I am ready to throw it out the window. Can anyone suggest a good desktop computer.I basically just need it to do some digital picture stuff and surf the web nothing to demanding, also I don't want to take out a loan to pay for it(ha-ha).Was looking online and was getting confused about which one to get. Any advice would be appreciated
T-minus 24 hours - ‘MATURE’ queer/trans/str8 dive bar & grill on tribe.net LAUNCHES NOW - OUR reveal party prior to 12/20 & your liberty & libations are on the house!

Greetings to those disgruntled by Tribe.net recent course of action in our ‘peer to peer’ Internet community which includes all my brothers and sisters,

I myself who just joined Tribe.net on Thanksgiving, have had one hell of a roller-coaster ride of awesome highs AND the disturbing arrival of the low-down reality of ‘status quo’ censorship.

I’ve always done my best to face challenge ‘head on’. Whether it be a silicon melt-down or coming up with a solution for what really pisses this faggot off!

Therefore instead of bolting Tribe.net, I’ve decided to hang and find out who will eventually win the ‘War of Liberty”. So after giving it much thought I’ve decided to started a new tribe as pf 12/18/05 AND I’m inviting you especially to take a ‘peek’ and check it out..

This new tribe in no way is meant to take any thunder away from any 'alternative tribes’ of which I’m a proud member of.

With the moderator’s permission I’d like to invite you to visit this new ‘mature’ tribe today, Monday December 16, 2005 while it’s still on ‘moderated’ status before it becomes ‘private’ and by sent only invitation tomorrow (on Tuesday).

The URL is:

http://tribes.tribe.net/queerthinktank?_click_path=Application%5Btribe%5D.Tribe%5B09ffbf11-1a37-48b7-a79d-cf1dd84f6266%5D

If for some reason the link above doesn’t work today, send me a message and I’ll get you in anyway.

As of 5:00 PM PST/11:00 PM EST TODAY this invitation thread will be no more on all tribes that it’s posted to.

The newly formed 'Queer Think Tank' tribe, is a 'MATURE' trans-generational meeting place, all-inclusive watering hole, trash salon, mobile dive bar & grill where liberty is on tap.

As I previously said, I've only been a member of Tribe.net since Thanksgiving and this 'newbie' is very appreciative that in a short period of time I've met people like you who choose to include me & help me out WHILE watching my back in the process for which I’m truly grateful for.

Now it’s my turn to return the favor.

YES MAM', SIR, and/or it; the 'Queer Think Tank' tribe is a private 'MATURE' trans-generational, all-inclusive watering hole, roadhouse & trash salon group on Tribe.net.

Thank you for your time and consideration, BTW you ROCK, thank you for your time and consideration and have a great week!

Now, where's that voice of liberty anyway? I know they’re around here somewhere.

Peace, understanding, peace & let’s get this party started,
Bob 69

PS, Even though the 'Queer Think Tank' tribe is now 'open for business' please expect much more by the end of this year. You know how a pre-release reveal party can get & "the show must go on" & Daddy needs to ‘chill’ for 72 hours.

FYI, This weekend my laptop decided to have a temper tantrum and I had a m*ther f*ckin’ "tiger by the tail" with no cage in sight, but now the beasty Mr. Happy seems to be behaving himself once again. After all, he’s just a wild-eyed and boisterous silicon chip off the old block. Anyway…

I've launching the tribe yesterday; December 18, 2005 before Tribe.net changes it's TOU policy and institutes 'community flagging' because of federal enforcement of '18 U.S.C. Section 2257' on December 20, 2005.

At your EARLIEST convenience TODAY, I implore you to check out the description of 'Queer Think Tank' and decide for yourself, if it's serving up what can quench your thirst or at least, wet your whistle.

IF you know of other tribe member who might like to join this 'MATURE' group of "ill repute & intellectual & social pursuits" please by all means, point them in our direction and ask them to send me a message!

Thank you.

realising my geeky side, it's taken years. I came out of the gay closet at 15, but it took longer for the geekisms to reveal themselves. However, I'm also occasionally a serious extrovert who likes to tease other gay geeks into talking. I'm not sure why I'm here. I read books about linguistic semantics and medieval history and write and smoke too many cigarettes and drink too much coffee (heaven = an endless existential cafe...) I'm a work in progress. Utterly self-conscious and self-assured. A mess. But sometimes kinda funny. You can hit me, but I'll mess you up.

I have a collection of about 100 VHS and betamax porn tapes I'd like to copy (or have copied) to DVD. [I've never even seen the betamax tapes, since I don't have a betamax player, but I couldn't let a friend throw them away].

What equipment would I need to copy these? Or, where can I get someone to do it, and for how much?

Thanks for any insight.

Book for Sybase to Oracle transition...?

I wonder if anybody here can point me to a to-the-point book on the difference between Sybase and Oracle. I've run Sybase for 5 years and know it quite well. But... the market demands we move to Oracle.

I imagine it is mostly the same, so I don't relish the thought of reading about Oracle from scratch, although I will if that's all that's available on the subject.

Thanks for any insight.

Hey, folks!

Okay, so I'm not gay, but I am a geek! Does that count? I've been trolling the tribes the last few days and I saw that you guys have some good gaming action going on (as in "recent", believe it or not, but I found a tribe earlier that hadn't had a post since July of last year!) with this tribe so I thought I'd stop here. I have a favor to ask of you guys and here it is:

I've recently been hired to help a family start a new gaming club/cyber cafe company. I'm writing here because I wanted to run the basic idea for the club past other gamers and get a feel for what the masses think. The owners have a new kind of idea for how the club's going to be run and it's pretty unusual. I had a big long (really long) post about it that I was planning to put on here, but after a suggestion from one of the mods here on Tribe I posted it with Yahoo instead and now I'm just posting the link. So, please, if you've got some time, check out the page, read about the club and let me know what you think! Thanks for your time and take care!

Jacalyn

Here's the link: www.geocities.com/diana_cor...amingClub.html

BTW, Mod-types, if you consider this spamming, by all means feel free to remove the post, no big deal. I *am* posting to as many gaming tribes as I can find so if I post to more than one of yours and you're getting sick of seeing it, just lemme know! /wave

Hey fellow Geeks,

Here's my latest project.... I created a new interview type blog recently called, "The Big Question".

Basically, every day I will post a question and people can put their answer to the question in the "comments" section.

Come answer a question or two yourself, you might be surprised where it leads you....

You can visit the blog at bigquestion2day.blogspot.com and might add it to your list of favorites so you can check back each day for the new question.

Thanks for your help in making it successful!

Many blank pictures

When I was growing up I thought I must be the only gay geek in the world. I have friends who still tell me I am alone, but now I find you guys! What brand of geekdom are we talking about here (I am very versitile in this respect)?

Anyway, can anybody help me?

On my new laptop only about 10% of the pictures on Tribe.net display normally. For the rest I get alternate-text, if there is any. This includes both the thumbnail images for tribe.net members and also the photo albums. I might see one out of 10 images on any given page.

I've tried reloading. I have the same experience (with the same pictures displaying or not) with both IE and Netscape 8.0.

It could be my browser setup, or something MacAfee did, but I don't know what to look for. Could it have something to do with Verizon DSL? I don't have the problem on the PC I have at work -- different PC, different network, different security package...

Any ideas? Thanks for any insight.

Sexual Experiences and Emotion in Women Results

I recruited research participants from this chat/discussion group several months ago for a study on Sexual Experiences and Emotion in Women. I want to thank the women who took part in this research. The study is now complete. If you have further questions or comments you may contact me at skycladgrrl@yahoo.com.
Thank You
Tera Beaber
Here is a summary of the study’s goals and results:

Goals and Results of the Study of Sexual Experiences and Emotion in Women
The goal of this research was to study the relationship between sexual functioning and anxiety in two groups: lesbians and heterosexual women. One interest was in investigating whether there are differences in anxiety and sexual functioning between heterosexual women and lesbians. Additionally, based on prior results, I hypothesized that anxiety is negatively correlated with sexual functioning among both heterosexual women and lesbians.
Participants were 42 women in lesbian relationships and 78 women in heterosexual relationships recruited through announcements posted on internet sites. Women over the age of 18 who were in a monogamous romantic relationship for at least 6 months were eligible to participate. The average age for lesbians was 30.05 years and the average age for heterosexuals was 28.77 years. The majority of participants were Caucasian, (76.2% of lesbians and 78.2% of heterosexuals), with smaller proportions of American Americans, Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders, and Hispanics. The average length of the current relationship was 40.13 months for lesbians and 38.91 months for heterosexuals.
One of the questionnaires used in this research measured anxiety. I found that lesbians and heterosexuals reported similar levels of anxiety. Another questionnaire that I used asked for reports of sexual functioning. I found that lesbian participants reported higher levels of arousal and orgasm than heterosexual participants, but that the groups did not differ in reports of desire, lubrication, satisfaction, pain, or overall sexual functioning. Additionally, I found that the various aspects of sexual functioning correlate with one another differently for lesbians and for heterosexuals. When I analyzed the relationship between anxiety and sexual functioning, I found different results in the lesbian and heterosexual groups. Among lesbian women, anxiety was not related to any aspect of sexual functioning. However, among heterosexual participants higher anxiety was associated with higher reports of pain and lower reports of orgasm, lubrication, and overall sexual functioning. In other words, the results suggest that anxiety is negatively related to sexual functioning among heterosexuals, but that it is unrelated to sexual functioning among lesbians. Again, I want to express my thanks to the women who participated in my research. My findings were intriguing, and I am looking forward to conducting more extensive research on this topic in the future.

Gay Geeks Resurrection in SF This Saturday

GAY GEEKS
A Haven for Intellectuals & Visionaries

Next Social/Discussion
Saturday, June 11
2:00 to 5:00pm
Muddy's Coffeehouse
1304 Valencia Street @24th
San Francisco

Muni lines 14, 26, 48, 49, 67
BART 24th Street Station (1 block)

In 1997 I organized a popular intellectual discussion group, Gay Geeks. It ran for several years. Many people seemed to enjoy these monthly get-togethers, so I decided to put on one or two
and see if there is room in the world for the resurrection of Gay Geeks.

What is a geek?

By my definition, a geek is someone who has an intense passion for learning about a subject, almost to the exclusion of other pursuits. One does not have to be a computer geek to be a geek, but can be a geek on just about anything: history, religion, math, trains, artichokes, you name it.

Gay Geeks was one of the very few places GBLT people could meet and enjoy far-ranging intellectual discussion in San Francisco. Will it happen again? Well, I'm willing to give it a shot this coming Saturday.

Be there AND be square!

Boycot MS

Please read this article:http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/22/national/22gay.html

MS has withdrawn support for gay rights ordinances in Seattle, coincidentally after meeting with a local pastor. From the article:

Dr. Hutcherson, pastor of the Antioch Bible Church, who has organized several rallies opposing same-sex marriage here and in Washington, D.C., said he threatened in those meetings to organize a national boycott of Microsoft products.

After that, "they backed off," the pastor said Thursday in a telephone interview. "I told them I was going to give them something to be afraid of Christians about," he said.

****************

I think WE should be boycotting MS now.

What are your thoughts?

Double NAT solution?

Hopefully, someone here will have an answer or can point me in the right direction.

I have cable internet access, a hardware firewall/router, and then a second router, but the computers behind the second router can't connect to the internet and I think i'm running into an issue with double NATting.

My set up is like this
Cable modem
+ firewall/router
++ computer 1
++ computer 2
++ linksys wireless router
+++computer 3 wired to the linksys

computers 1 and 2 can see the internet and work fine. Computer 3 was also hooked up to the firewall and worked fine, but then i moved it over the linksys so i could configure the linksys wireless router. But now Computer 3 can't get to the internet.

The linksys is set up as a "router" and not a "gateway" since the firewall is doing that. I did a ping test from computer 3 via the linksys configuration screens and I succcessfully pinged everything else - the cable modem, the firewall, comps 1 and 2, the linksys and itself, comp 3.

I've been searching the net for answers and have tried a few things, but nothing has worked yet. linksys is plugged into port 3 of the firewall and not the Uplink port. I've tried DCHP and no DHCP on Linksys and that caused no end of headaches.

Any ideas on what else to try in configuration so computer 3 can get to the internet?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TO ALL GAY GEEKS

TWO MUPPETS NAMED TOP SCIENTISTS

Muppets Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant Beaker defeated Dr. Strangelove, Dana Scully of "X Files" fame and Star Trek's Mr. Spock to be voted Britain's favorite screen scientists on Monday.

They beat their closest rival by a margin of 2 to 1 and won 33 percent of the 43,000 votes cast in an Internet poll.

Spock came in a distance second with 15 percent followed by The Doctor, from Dr Who, who garnered 13 percent. Scully, the only woman in the poll, came in sixth.

"They are accessible, humorous and occasionally blow each other up," said Roland Jackson, of the British Association for the Advancement of Science (BA).

The balding, white-coated Honeydew and flame-haired, bulging-eyed Beaker created an array of crazy gadgets on the popular television show.

"They're the kind of scientists you would like to be but never quite dared to," said Alan Slater, a scientist at the University of Exeter in southwestern England.

The poll, sponsored by the BA and the BBC cult television website gave the public five weeks to choose their favorite scientist from a shortlist of 10 that included Dr. Evil from the film "Austin Powers," Dr. Frankenstein, Frank N.
ecommerce pkg recommendations?

I'm working on my partner's site for his salon. He'll be huckin' shampoo, etc on the site- can anyone recommend a good ecommerce package? The hosting is with Pair Networks and they have deals with Americart and Shopsite. I've never implemented anything like this, and while I'm sure it's fairly easy, I don't know much about the companies that provide this service.

Thanks-
Ron

First of all, hello! I'm a gay geek, so this tribe sounds perfect for me. I've searched "Gay Computers" and "Gay IT" for years, wanting to connect with other gay guys into computers and never found any listings -- until now! Cool!

As for me, I'm the IT Manager at KROQ, a Los Angeles radio station. Very cool place to work, with lots and lots of technology available for me to play with, fix, upgrade and generally have a good time with. Mostly.

I hope this tribe is a great success. Good luck with it!

What's going on with me...

Well, I've been trying to get "back in the game," again...after being laid off in 2000. I've been sending out resumes and interviewing over the past few months and my experience therein has been quite odd.

I had an interview today in Cambridge for an IA position. And in the midst of phone interviews for two other positions. One is a six week contract position and the other is with a company I'd really like to work for.

Said company has been really good about calling when they say they are, etc.
I interviewed with the HR person, and then a partner in the co. My next phone interview was with the head of the regional office, to which I'd report. It was a really odd phone call, at least from my perspective. I didn't feel like I had a good report with him. At one point he put out a scenario, asking what I would do. Two seconds later he says, "...and that was a question." I said, "I know, I'm thinking...". It just really put me off for some reason. So who knows where that will lead....

More to come...
