My spouse would like to know of alternatives to either Outlook (full or Express) or Thunderbird. He's concerned that the former won't handle that jpg prob and he can't get the latter to work when he upgraded to version .8.

    Several of my coworkers use Mulberry. It's more text based though without html capabilities, I think.

    I use Thunderbird .8 and I really like it.
